Prinz-Regent-Str. 74c

This conversion measure was carried out as part of the "Smart Windpark Laboratory" research project by the Chair of Energy Systems Engineering and Power Mechatronics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Prinz-Regent-Straße 74c.

Information on the Project

The conversion was carried out by the landlord, BoReal GmbH, in cooperation with Ruhr-Universität Bochum, which provided a construction grant. The construction management took over the project management in order to represent the interests of Ruhr University Bochum. Department 5.1 and Department 5.2 were responsible for the success of the project.

Project description

The following major structural changes were carried out in the research hall:

  • Dismantling of all outbuildings, installations (electricity, ventilation, etc.) and steel floors that were no longer required
  • Insulation, cladding and profile cladding on the roof surfaces and exterior side walls
  • Levelling of the hall floors (interlocking paving at the front, concrete floor at the rear)
  • Laying of central cable ducts in the hall floor
  • Installation of electrical/data/telephony installations and installation of LED strip lighting
  • new sectional hall door, new escape doors and external floodlights on the east gable end
  • New installations of fire alarm system/RWA and installation of burglar alarm system
  • Construction of concrete foundations and new laboratory control room 160m2 (2 x 80m2)

The following work was carried out in the office, warehouse and workshop area:

  • Inspection of all roof surfaces, partial re-roofing of the roofs
  • Installation of new ceilings, insulation of the offices
  • New windows at the rear, heating (gas condensing boiler) and radiators
  • new electrical installation, IT cable ducts, escape route lighting
  • Preparation for installation of disabled WC
  • Installation of new locking system

The following work was carried out outside:

  • Base area for transformers
  • Electrical connections
  • 10 parking spaces and pedestrian path laid out
  • Turning/maneuvering area in front of the main gate

The project in figures

  • Start of construction January 2020
  • Rental agreement signed in February 2020
  • Handover of the buildings to the Chair for the installation of the wind power test benches and occupation of the offices in October 2020
  • Commissioning and installation of the laboratory equipment by May 2021
  • Removal of 2 gantry cranes, overhaul of 1 gantry crane
  • 1.800m2 test hall designed for 30 wind power test benches and 1 climate test bench renovated and converted
  • 250m2 office, storage and workshop area renovated and converted
