Project Description
The research building is intended to enable the pooling of expertise from engineering, economics and law for the joint implementation of basic research in one location.
The areas are divided into a proportion for laboratory and research areas, workspaces for theoretical evaluation, scientists and a proportion for areas of overlapping use.
It should provide an optimal environment for the correlating areas of use for mapping the entire lifecycle process of smart systems and a complete business logic and be structurally capable of reacting to the interdisciplinary requirements of the new engineering approach with the highest degree of flexibility.
The project was planned with the support of Building Information Modeling (BIM) due to the special usage structure of the building, which is unique in the university sector.
The site is located on the grounds of the former Opel works in Bochum. The ZESS was the first building project to be realized in the Science Quarter as part of the current MARK 51°7 development area.
