Devision International Office
The International Office (IO) coordinates the international relations of the university and is the contact for all questions concerning the internationality of teaching, research and administration. Its tasks include supporting international students and academics as well as providing information and advice to members of the Ruhr-Universität regarding stays abroad and international cooperation.
The IO is in close contact with the institutions of international academic cooperation (DAAD, EU, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, etc.) and advises on their funding programmes in the areas of mobility, cooperation and internationalisation.
The university’s chairs and faculties are assisted in the initiation and implementation of international cooperations as well as in the support of visiting scholars.
The IO advises the university administration and other academic departments on issues relating to strategic internationalisation, international strategic networking, and the university's global social commitment.
Studying in Bochum
The International Office advises international students on questions concerning their studies at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and supports their socio-cultural integration into their new living environment.
Studying abroad
The International Office provides information on the planning, financing and implementation of stays abroad. The IO coordinates exchange and scholarship programmes for students and teaching staff (e.g. Erasmus programmes, university partnerships) and raises and allocates the corresponding funds.
Welcome Centre for international researchers and doctoral students
The IO’s Welcome Centre is the point of contact for international researchers and other university staff as well as their families to receive support and advice regarding their research stay at the Ruhr-Universität.
This offer also applies to hosts at the Ruhr-Universität’s chairs and faculties. The Welcome Centre provides support in the preparation and implementation of research stays in Bochum.
Strategic internationalisation
The IO supports university administration and all staff of the Ruhr-Universität in all aspects concerning the initiation and maintenance of international cooperation and partnerships as well as the internationalisation of teaching, research and administration. The IO provides information regarding the international profile of the university, its existing cooperations and partnerships, and internationalisation strategy.
