Sustainability Culture

Making sustainability a topic and implementing it in everyday life is necessary so that everyone can participate in the sustainable development of Ruhr University and beyond.

Through information, awareness-raising and educational offers, university members are empowered to act more sustainably in their everyday learning and working lives. The student employees of the Sustainability Office, supported by the full-time employees, are primarily responsible for the cross-thematic pursuit of these goals.

The student section of the Sustainability Office has been active since 2020 and forms the nucleus of today's Sustainability and Energy Department. The idea is based on the Green Office concept, which was awarded the UNESCO Prize for Education for Sustainable Development.

Core Tasks

Raising awareness of the topic of sustainability and communicating sustainability activities and examples of best practice at Ruhr University
Planning, implementation and support of events and educational programs for sustainable development on campus
Networking of and with sustainability stakeholders on campus and beyond
Development of participation formats to help shape the sustainable development of Ruhr University

Our aim is to make the topic of sustainability visible in all its dimensions on campus and to jointly shape the path to a more sustainable Ruhr University Bochum. We want to motivate all members of the university to actively engage in sustainability and to discuss this topic. In this way, we can benefit from many different perspectives and learn from each other, because we can only achieve sustainable change together!
