The University Archive’s holdings

The University Archive’s records are organized by holdings. We ware currently working on the implementation of a digital research interface on our website. In the meantime, until this process has been finalized, we are happy to inform you individually on our archive holdings. Please contact us at archiv@ruhr-uni-bochum.de and we will jointly arrange an appointment for you to search our directories.

Which ordering principle is used for the archive holdings?

The holdings are organized according to their origin from the different departments of the university. This has the advantage that individual files remain intact in the context of their origin and therefore become a coherent holding.

For their part, the holdings are classified then into superordinate holdings groups according to the organizational location of the file creators within the departmental structure of the university. Furthermore, deposits, provenances from outside the University Archive’s jurisdiction and collections add to the university’s records in the archive.

The archive plans consists of the following archive holdings groups:

A Central Institutions and Administration

B Faculties and Departments

C Groups

D Associations

E Estates, Individual Document Submissions

F Deposits / Provenances from outside the University Archive’s jurisdiction

S Collections

Contrary the groups A to F the group “Collections” is organized by thematic resp. formal criteria and adds to the archive holdings.
