University Management
The members of the University Council are appointed for five years and have far-reaching powers: The Council has a direct strategic function for the future development of the university and is responsible for supervising the operational business carried out by the university management.

The seven members of the University Council, who are appointed for five years, have far-reaching powers: The University Council has a direct strategic function for the future development of the university and is responsible for overseeing the operational business carried out by the university management. Finally, it takes up impulses from business and society and provides the necessary advisory knowledge for the decisions of the university management.
The University Council participates in the election of the members of the university management, must approve the business plan, gives its opinion on the university development plan, the accountability and evaluation reports as well as matters relating to research, art, teaching and studies.

Hendrik "Ed" Brinksma, born in 1957 in The Hague in the Netherlands, was President of Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2020 until 2024 and has held a professorship in Computer Science at the University of Twente in the Netherlands since July 2005. He was president of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg from 2018 to 2020 and rector of the University of Twente from 2009 to 2016. Brinksma studied mathematics at the University of Groningen and received his doctorate from the University of Twente in 1988. The internationally renowned scientist is, among other things, a member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, founded in 1752.

Gerardus Johannes Maria Meijer, born in the Netherlands in 1962, studied physics in Nijmegen from 1980 to 1985 and received his doctorate there in 1988. After research stays in the USA and Amsterdam, among other places, he became professor of experimental physics at the University of Nijmegen in 1995. From 2000 to 2003, he was director of the FOM Institute for Plasma Physics in Nieuwegein, then director at the Fritz Haber Institute (FHI) of the Max Planck Society in Berlin as director of the Molecular Physics Department until 2012. Since 2012, he was President of the Board of Radboud University in Nijmegen. In 2016, he returned to the FHI, where he is director of the Molecular Physics Department. He was a member of the German Science Council from 2018 to the beginning of 2024.
