University Management
The Senate is one of the central bodies of Ruhr University Bochum. It is made up of 25 elected members. The meetings of the Senate are open to members and affiliates of the university as well as to the press and radio (except for the non-public part), subject to availability.

The tasks of the Senate are regulated by the NRW Higher Education Act and the Constitution of the Ruhr-Universität. These include
The XVII Senate of the RUBhas 25 elected members. Thirteen come from the group of professors, four each from the other three status groups: academic staff; technical and administrative staff; students.
The term of office of the student representatives is one year, the term of office of the other elected members is three years. The members of the Rectorate, the deans, the AstA chairperson, the chairpersons of the staff councils and the Equal Opportunities Officer as well as the representative of disabled people and the representative for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses participate in the Senate meetings in an advisory capacity.
