Dealing with anti-Semitism poses particular challenges for universities in Germany. Ruhr University Bochum has positioned itself clearly and unambiguously in this regard. On the part of the administration, this positioning requires reliable processes, which are described in a separate guideline.
The guideline on dealing with anti-Semitism - description of administrative processes (available here in the Service Portal for employees) describes in detail all obligations, internal procedures and communication channels for those involved in incidents with an anti-Semitic background.
Central points of contact for incidents of any kind with an anti-Semitic background
These central points of contact (contact addresses below) have a filtering and coordinating function: they record information and incidents and inform the university management, involve other stakeholders within and outside Ruhr University Bochum if necessary and prepare decisions.
The university management makes the decisions and - if necessary - handles communication within and outside the university.
The policy identifies various cases with an anti-Semitic background which may require decisions and measures to be taken by the university administration and university management.
Institutions that accept registrations for events or functions evaluate them and are required to contact the central contact points for further assessment as soon as they suspect an anti-Semitic background.
Inform the central contact points if you become aware of anti-Semitic statements by members or against members of the university or if you discover antisemitic stickers, graffiti or similar on campus.
Inform the central contact points if you become aware of threats of anti-Semitic acts.
In any violent situation, call the RUB Control Room (Leitwarte) at 0234 32 23333, which will initiate Ruhr University Bochum's emergency management reporting chain. To ensure that the central contact points are also notified, state the anti-Semitic background of the act of violence when you call, for example
